Sailflags FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions
What size are the standard flags?
Rather than list our full range of sizes here, please refer to the Artwork page.
Are poles and bases included?
Yes. All of our complete systems include the flagpole and either a fillable base or a ground spike, except our Pavement flags which have a small flat metal base.
We also stock heavy flat metal bases, wall brackets, drive-over bases, ground screws, etc. We supply these at close to cost, and deduct the value of the free fillable base or ground spike from your order.
Do you charge for design services?
No. We offer free design work to help you make your flags look professional. Only in extreme cases will we make a nominal additional charge, for example if we have to rebuild a complex logo from scratch.
Are the flags double sided?
Not as standard. Like the vast majority of flags on the market ours are made from a single layer of fabric printed both sides, so they read in mirror image on the reverse.
We do produce true double sided flags, which are triple ply so they cost approximately 50% more.
How sturdy are the flags?
The flags are very sturdy and can withstand heavy winds if the bases are fully filled, as you will see in our testimonials.
Of course in the very worst UK weather conditions flags should be taken indoors.
General Product Life:
If you bring in your flags and flagpoles daily, we would expect at least 12 months use, but many customers feedback that 2-3 years use is not uncommon.
If you leave flags exposed to the elements 24 hours a day, we would expect up to 6 months use.
What are the flags made of?
The flags are made from the latest hardwearing polyester flag material.
We also supply a lighter fabric more suited to indoor use, usually only on our Promo sailflag model. Due to its finer weave it provides a slightly better print definition.
Can the flags be washed?
Yes, they can be hand or machine washed at 30ºC if required.
What are the poles made of?
The flag poles are designed to be transportable yet strong, made either of anodised aluminium or a lightweight steel with an external anti-rust coating, depending on the model.
How should I supply my artwork?
Please supply artwork as vector files (PDF, AI, EPS, CDR) with text converted to curves, or high resolution bitmaps (TIFF, JPEG, etc). Bear in mind that we print at 150dpi (dots per inch) and the flags are quite large. CMYK files are preferred, and if you have specific colour requirements please let us know in terms of Pantone numbers or equivalent.
Do you sell carriers?
We can supply a dual carrier bag, which holds 2 flagpoles and 2 flags neatly. Highly recommended for easy transport and storage, and will help improve the longevity of your flags too.
Can you supply wall brackets, ground screws, etc?
Yes. We stock wall brackets, ground screws, drive-over bases, etc. See our Options page. We supply these at close to cost, and deduct the value of the free fillable base or ground spike from your order.
Do you supply separate parts?
Yes. You can purchase alternative or replacement flags, poles or bases for your existing systems.
What do I fill the fillable bases with?
Sand or water. Many customers prefer water because it’s easier to empty.
Do I have to use the base?
No. Sailflags can be secured to structures using cable/zip ties, or fixed into wall brackets or into soft ground with spikes. A discount can be given if bases are not required.
Are there colour options for the poles and bases?
White or black, for most systems, subject to stock cycles.
How do you colour match?
In any printing process there is a potential for variation in the colours produced. While we certainly know our systems and can match your colour requirements fairly precisely, we do ask that for any particularly sensitive colours, for example corporate branding, you provide us with Pantone references to match to, or even post us an example of printed materials you may have, for example a business card or leaflet.
