Penzance Promenade Flags 2026: New Sea Moor Cornwall Designs Coming to the Seafront

Sailflags is delighted to have successfully tendered to produce six new Penzance promenade flags for 2026, adding fresh artwork to the much-loved display already flying along the seafront.

The new flags have been created to complement the existing promenade flags while bringing something distinct, local and beautifully Cornish to the collection. For this latest project, Sea Moor Cornwall, the work of Newlyn-based artist Stevie McCrindle, was chosen to provide the artwork.

The result is a set of designs that celebrate the character of West Cornwall, the sea, the natural world and the creative spirit that makes Penzance and Newlyn so special.

New Flags for Penzance Promenade in 2026

The Penzance promenade flags have become part of the town’s visual identity, adding colour, movement and a strong sense of place along one of Cornwall’s most recognisable seafronts.

For 2026, the addition of six new flags will help refresh the promenade while remaining sympathetic to the existing designs. Rather than replacing what is already there, the new artwork has been selected to sit alongside the current flags, enhancing the overall display and giving visitors and residents something new to enjoy.

At Sailflags, we are proud to have been selected to manufacture the new Penzance promenade flags. As a Cornwall-based flag manufacturer, projects like this are especially meaningful to us. They allow us to combine local production, high-quality flag printing and artwork rooted in the surrounding landscape.

Why Sea Moor Cornwall Was Chosen

Sea Moor Cornwall was selected because Stevie McCrindle’s work has such a strong connection to the coast, sea life and natural textures of Cornwall.

Based in Newlyn, Stevie’s art feels particularly appropriate for Penzance promenade. Her work is inspired by the sea and moors of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, making it a natural fit for a seafront flag display that should feel local, authentic and visually engaging.

The promenade is not just a place people pass through. It is a place for walking, meeting, pausing, looking out to sea and connecting with the town’s coastal setting. Stevie’s artwork captures that sense of place beautifully.

Stevie McCrindle’s Art Style

Sea Moor Cornwall Gallery

Stevie McCrindle’s work through Sea Moor Cornwall is contemporary, detailed and deeply connected to nature. Her designs are inspired by marine life, rock pools, coastal forms and the natural beauty found in and around Cornwall’s shoreline.

One of the most distinctive aspects of Stevie’s work is her use of Gyotaku, an ancient Japanese fish-printing technique. Traditionally, Gyotaku involved taking prints directly from fish, originally as a way of recording a catch. Stevie has taken this historic method and given it a fresh, modern Cornish interpretation.

Her process begins by painting directly onto the subject before taking a print from it. From there, she studies the natural markings, textures and shape, then adds intricate detail and embellishment using her own creative style. The finished work combines direct observation with imagination, creating designs that feel both natural and highly decorative.

This makes her artwork especially suitable for flags. The designs have movement, detail and energy, but also strong silhouettes and visual impact. On a promenade, where flags need to be seen from a distance and experienced in changing light and weather, that balance is important.

From Sea-Inspired Artwork to Promenade Flags

Turning original artwork into outdoor flags requires careful handling. Fine detail, colour, contrast and scale all need to be considered so the artwork remains clear and vibrant when printed onto fabric.

For the Penzance promenade flags 2026 project, the Sea Moor Cornwall designs have been prepared for large-format flag printing while retaining the character of Stevie’s original artwork. The aim is to keep the essence of the designs intact, while ensuring they work beautifully as public-facing outdoor displays.

At Sailflags, our in-house production process allows us to manage this carefully. We understand how artwork behaves on fabric, how colours appear when flags are backlit by the sky, and how designs need to be seen as they move in the wind.

The finished flags will be printed using professional dye-sublimation, a process that bonds the ink into the fabric fibres. This helps create strong colour, excellent show-through and durable results suitable for outdoor display.

A Local Project with Local Meaning

This project is a celebration of local creativity and local manufacturing.

The artwork comes from a Newlyn artist whose work is shaped by the sea, the harbour and the Cornish coast. The flags are being produced by Sailflags, a Cornwall-based manufacturer with years of experience creating flags, banners and outdoor displays for businesses, events, councils and community projects.

For Penzance, the 2026 promenade flags are more than decoration. They are a visual welcome, a celebration of place and a way of bringing public art into an everyday setting.

For residents, they add colour and pride to a familiar route. For visitors, they help tell a story about the town before they have even reached the shops, galleries, harbour or seafront attractions.

Supporting Public Art on the Promenade

Outdoor flags are a powerful format for public art because they are accessible, visible and constantly changing. A printed flag is never completely still. It shifts with the wind, catches the light differently throughout the day and becomes part of the surrounding environment.

That makes flags particularly well suited to Penzance promenade. With the sea, sky and coastline as a backdrop, the new Sea Moor Cornwall designs will help create a display that feels alive and connected to its setting.

The six new flags for 2026 will add a fresh chapter to the existing promenade flag scheme, helping to keep the display current while respecting the character of the original collection.

Sailflags and the Penzance Promenade Flags 2026

Sailflags is proud to be involved in the 2026 Penzance promenade flags project.

As a Cornish business, we understand the importance of producing work that not only looks good, but also reflects the area it represents. Whether we are creating flags for a town promenade, a national event, a local business or a community organisation, our focus is always on quality, durability and strong visual impact.

Commenting on the project, Vaughn Try, Operations Manager at Sailflags, said:

“It’s a real privilege for Sailflags to be involved in producing the new Penzance promenade flags for 2026. These flags are going to be seen by residents, visitors and businesses every day, so it’s important they feel connected to the area. Stevie’s Sea Moor Cornwall designs capture that coastal identity brilliantly, and we’re proud to be manufacturing them here in Cornwall.”
