Feather Flags

Feather flags are one of the most effective large-format displays available — tall, dynamic, and visible at distance. Choose from fully custom-printed feather flags, ready-made designs, or flags for Scout and youth groups. Made in the UK since 1999, from 100% recycled fabric.

Feather Flags With Base

Why feather flags work?

The curved outer edge keeps the fabric taut and legible even in the wind, while the tall silhouette creates movement that catches attention from a distance. Combined with dye-sublimation printing, which embeds colour deep into the fabric rather than sitting on the surface, the result is a display that stays vibrant through repeated outdoor use, washing, and storage.

Our flags use 115gsm 100% recycled polyester: light enough to respond to a gentle breeze, strong enough for sustained outdoor conditions. The flexible fibreglass pole bends rather than breaks in high winds, reducing stress on both the fabric and the base.

Choosing a feather flag base

Water Base

Portable and self-standing. Fill with water or sand on arrival, easy to reposition between locations. Works indoors and outdoors.

Surface: Indoor floors, outdoor hard surfaces

Ground spike

Pushes into grass or soft ground. The standard choice for events, festivals, and outdoor promotions on natural terrain.

Surface: Grass, soil

Metal base

A flat, heavy base that provides strong stability without needing to be filled. Better suited to higher wind exposure or locations where you want a more solid footing.

Surface: Hard floors, outdoor hard surfaces

Drive-over base

Slots under a vehicle tyre to anchor the flag in position. The standard choice for car dealerships and mobile catering businesses.

Surface: Forecourt, car park

Where feather flags can be used

  • Retail & high street — entrance displays, sale promotions, seasonal campaigns
  • Car dealerships & forecourts — roadside advertising with tyre base fixing
  • Events & exhibitions — trade shows, outdoor festivals, branded hospitality zones
  • Hospitality & leisure — pubs, restaurants, and gyms promoting offers outdoors
  • Schools & charities — fundraising days, open events, campus wayfinding
  • Sports clubs — entrance flags, pitch-side branding, club identity
  • Scout & youth groups — camps, parades, and district gatherings

Made in the UK, built for British weather

All flags are manufactured in our Cornwall factory from 100% recycled polyester. The lightweight fabric flexes with the wind rather than fighting it, reducing stress on the pole and extending print life. For exposed locations — coastal, open festival grounds, or motorway-adjacent forecourts — ask us about reinforced pole kits and weighted base options.

Most orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days. Express and next-day options available — see individual product pages or contact us with your deadline.

Buying guide, what to know before you order

Don't order too small

A 2.7m flag looks impressive in a showroom but can disappear against a busy high street or large car park. If your audience is in a vehicle or at a distance, go 4.2m or above. For on-foot, contained settings, 3.6m is usually the sweet spot.

Single-sided vs double-sided

Standard flags are single-sided — the print shows faintly on the reverse. If your flag will be visible from both directions (a walkway, entrance gate, or two-way roadside), double-sided is the right product. It costs more but looks right from every angle.

Feather flags vs teardrop flags — they're not the same

Feather flags have an open curved top and move freely in the wind — better for long-range outdoor visibility. Teardrop flags have a fully sealed, rounded print area that holds its shape more rigidly. Order one expecting the other and you'll be disappointed.

Check lead times before you commit

Turnaround times are quoted from artwork approval, not from order date. Factor in at least one round of amends in your timeline for custom flags. If you have a hard event deadline, tell us upfront and we'll confirm what's achievable. We manufacture everything ourselves in the UK and can ensure tight deadlines are kept.

Match the base to your surface — not your preference

A ground spike won't work on tarmac or concrete. Think about every surface you'll use the flag on, not just the first occasion. Order the wrong base, and you either can't set up at all or you're improvising on the day.

Wind resistance is about the system, not just the fabric

Lightweight bases without adequate ballast will tip in a strong breeze. For exposed locations — coastal, open festival, motorway forecourt — prioritise a heavy-metal base or a large water-fill base, and a flexible carbon-fibre flagpole. Ask us about wind ratings for your site.

Cheap flags cost more in the long run

Dye-sublimation on quality 115gsm polyester lasts significantly longer than digitally printed flags on inferior fabric. A flag that needs replacing after one season because the colour has washed out costs more overall than one that lasts two to three years with proper care. High-quality and skilled sewing adds to longevity,

Frequently Asked Questions About Feather Flags

For maximum outdoor visibility, a feather flag of 4m to 5m in height is recommended. This height is effective at distances of 20–50 metres and performs well in busy roadside, forecourt, and event environments.

Yes. Feather flags can be configured for indoor use with a flat base or weighted base fitting. They are commonly used at trade shows, exhibitions, retail interiors, and indoor event venues.

With proper care, feather flags manufactured from quality dye-sublimation printed polyester typically last 12–24 months of regular outdoor use. Print life depends on UV exposure, washing frequency, and storage conditions.

Feather flags have a curved outer edge with a pointed or rounded top, giving a narrow, tall silhouette. Teardrop flags have a sealed full-bleed print area with a distinctive rounded top. Feather flags are generally better for high-visibility roadside use, while teardrop flags suit environments where a consistent full-print appearance is prioritised.

Yes. Double-sided feather flags use two printed panels stitched back-to-back with a blocking layer to prevent show-through. They are ideal for high-traffic environments where the flag will be visible from multiple directions.

For soft ground (grass, soil), a ground spike is the most secure option. For hard surfaces (tarmac, concrete), a cross base with a water bag provides the best stability. For car dealerships, a tyre base offers the most robust fixing.

Custom feather flag prices vary depending on size, quantity, base type, and turnaround time. Single flags are available with no minimum order requirement. Contact our team or use the online configurator for an instant quote.

Yes. Feather flags are widely used in retail environments for sale promotions, seasonal campaigns, new arrivals, and entrance displays. Their tall format and dynamic movement make them highly effective at attracting passing footfall.

Do feather flags increase footfall?

It’s a fair question, and the evidence shows they do. Feather flags aren’t just eye-catching; they deliver measurable increases in visibility and footfall, making them one of the most effective forms of outdoor signage.

Proven Increase in Footfall

Studies into outdoor signage consistently show that adding visible, well-placed displays like feather flags can significantly impact customer behaviour:

  • Businesses have reported up to a 50% increase in footfall after introducing feather flags
  • More typical results sit around a 20% uplift, depending on location and setup
  • Wider signage research shows that around 48% of customers are influenced by external signage when deciding to enter a business

In practical terms, this means feather flags don’t just sit there looking good—they actively bring more people through your door.

Why They Work So Well

Feather flags combine three key elements that make them highly effective:

  • Height – visible above crowds, parked cars, and surrounding signage
  • Movement – natural motion in the wind draws attention instinctively
  • Bold design – clear messaging that can be understood at a glance

This combination helps your business stand out in busy environments, acting as a visual cue that guides potential customers toward you.
