Most people ordering a flag for the first time budget for the flag and forget the base. It is the part that keeps a four-metre pole upright on a forecourt in a crosswind, so it is not an optional extra.
For the whole of October, we are including a free fillable flag base with every custom feather flag, teardrop flag, and banner flag. The offer applies to every size, and it applies whether you choose standard print or double-sided print.

We pick the base to match the flag. A 1.6m banner flag outside a café doesn’t need the same ballast as a 5.2m feather flag at a county show. Our team matches each flag to the right base for its height and weight. The base guide further down this page explains how.

We will send a digital proof for approval. Production starts once you sign it off, and most orders are printed, finished and dispatched within 3–5 working days.

Feather, teardrop or banner: which flag shape is right for you?
All three shapes use the same 22mm sectional pole system, recycled polyester fabric and dye-sublimation print process. What sets them apart is how each one holds your artwork.

Double-sided flags: every double-sided flag comes with the Medium Fillable Base, whatever its size. A double-sided flag has two printed panels sewn around a block-out layer. That makes it heavier and gives it more surface area for the wind to push against, so it needs the extra ballast.
About the free flag bases
Both bases are hollow polyethylene units. You fill them on site with water or a water and sand mix. Empty, they are light enough to carry in one hand. Filled, they give the weight a flag needs to stay upright outdoors.
Supplied with our mid-size and tall flags, and with every double-sided flag. The black finish looks tidy against tarmac, showroom floors and exhibition carpet.

Filling and handling
A water and sand mix gives more weight than water alone, so use it on exposed sites. Fill the base where it will stand, not before you set off. These bases are not fitted with water seals and will leak if carried or stored full. At shows and events, empty the base when you pack down.
Wind and exposed sites
Take any flag down when wind speeds reach around 24mph (Beaufort Force 5), and sooner on coastal or gusty sites. If you are flying a 4.2m or 5.2m flag somewhere exposed all year round, ask us about our Large Heavy-Duty Base or Large Flat Metal Base. The free base is well suited to events and standard daily use, but a permanent install in a windy spot calls for more weight.

We use 100% recycled polyester, water-based dye-sublimation inks and recycled or repurposed packaging wherever we can.
