Exhibition Season Is Here: Make Your Brand Impossible to Ignore

EXHIBITION IDEAS & ADVICE

Exhibition Season Is Here:
Make Your Brand Impossible to Ignore

Exhibition season is back. The halls are busy, the aisles are packed, and every brand is fighting for exactly the same thing: attention.

Exhibition Season Is Here: Make Your Brand Impossible to Ignore 1

Following my recent visit to the NEC for the National Franchise Exhibition — and having exhibited at hundreds of events over the years — one thing keeps coming back to me.

Walk into any busy exhibition hall and you feel it almost immediately. The carpet. The lighting rigs. The noise. Hundreds of pitches happening at once.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, your stand has a few seconds to make somebody stop.

“Visitors don’t really walk an exhibition floor.
They skim it.”

Your stand may get only a few seconds before somebody decides to stop… or keep walking.

That’s roughly the same amount of attention you get during a social media scroll. No pressure, then.

The good news? Getting noticed doesn’t necessarily mean having a bigger budget than the stand next door.

THE WHOLE GAME COMES DOWN TO

Height. Colour. And a Little Bit of Cunning.

The Problem With Beige Booths

Most exhibition stands make the same mistake.

It isn’t necessarily bad design. It’s poor visibility.

A roller banner tucked behind a table. A logo disappearing into a busy backdrop. A stand that looks almost identical to the forty around it.

None of those things is technically wrong. They’re just very easy to ignore.

Exhibition halls are brutal environments for branding. High ceilings make small signage disappear, artificial lighting can flatten colours and rows of similar shell schemes create a sea of sameness.

At a large exhibition such as the National Franchise Exhibition, where thousands of visitors move through the hall over two days, blending in isn’t just a design choice.

The fix? Go vertical.

EXHIBITION ATTENTION-GRABBERS

Put Your Brand Above Everybody’s Heads

Flags work incredibly well at exhibitions because they create height, movement and colour — helping your stand become visible before somebody is standing directly in front of it.

Feather Flags

The exhibition all-rounder.

Lightweight, quick to assemble and tall enough to rise above a busy aisle. Perfect for stand entrances, aisle edges and long-distance visibility.

Shop Feather Flags

Sail Flags

A shape that gets recognised.

Our signature crest-shaped flag gives your branding a noticeably different silhouette from conventional exhibition flags.

Shop Sail Flags

Teardrop Flags

Compact, curved and always under tension.

A clean, distinctive profile that works brilliantly at entrances, forecourts, outdoor events and promotional areas.

Banner Flags

More space for the message.

The broader shape gives you more printable area when you need a headline, offer, key benefit or stronger campaign message.

Rucksack Flags

Take the branding to the crowd.

Turn your team into walking advertising and direct visitors from busy thoroughfares back towards your exhibition stand.

Where Each Display Really Earns Its Keep

Choosing the right product for the right position can completely change how an exhibition stand performs.

Entrance & Car Park

A Forecourt Flag or large Teardrop Flag signals “you’ve arrived” before visitors even reach the venue.

Exhibition Aisle

A 3m–4m Feather Flag rises above neighbouring stands and helps pull eyes down the aisle towards your position.

Working the Floor

Rucksack Flags turn your team into walking adverts and help direct footfall from busy areas back towards the stand.

Retail Activations

Nobori Flags and printed bunting provide exhibition-style visibility without demanding lots of floor space.

Main Exhibition Stand

Combine formats. A Sail Flag creates recognition, a Banner Flag delivers the message and a branded backdrop completes the environment.

A Reason to Stop

A Giant Deckchair turns a passer-by into a seated conversation — something conventional signage simply can’t do.

Long Open Aisles

A lit Lamp Post Banner becomes a landmark visitors can see from much further away.

Shell Scheme Stands

Fabric backdrop panels Velcro directly over the standard grey walls, creating a completely branded environment without a custom-build price tag.

THE WALL OF BRAND

Backdrop → Message → Height → Movement → Conversation

Several products. One consistent identity. Visibility from every angle. That’s what we like to call a wall of brand.

LESSONS FROM THE SHOW FLOOR

7 Exhibition Tips We’ve Learned the Hard Way

After years of producing exhibition displays — and exhibiting ourselves — these are the details that consistently separate memorable stands from forgettable ones.

01 — Go Taller Than Feels Comfortable

Check the organiser’s regulations first. Then use the height they give you. If you’re allowed to go to 4m, don’t automatically stop at 2m because that’s what you’ve always done. Height buys visibility.

02 — Fight the Beige

Exhibition halls contain a lot of grey. Grey carpet. Grey framework. Grey walls. Artificial lighting. Strong, contrasting colours cut through that environment far more effectively than artwork that disappears into it. This is not the place to be shy.

03 — One Big Message First

Visitors get seconds, not minutes. Don’t squeeze the company brochure onto a flag. Lead with the one thing you want somebody to understand: what you do, what you’re offering, or why they should stop.

04 — Match the Base to the Floor

Choose the base for the environment, not because it happens to be pictured next to the flag online. Weighted or water-fillable bases work well indoors. Outside, you may need a ground spike, drive-over base or heavier weighted option.

05 — Give Yourself a Production Buffer

Printing isn’t usually the stressful part. Leaving everything until the last minute is. Allow time for artwork, proofs, production and delivery so that if something changes, you still have options.

06 — Give People a Reason to Stop

Visibility gets somebody looking. Interaction gets somebody talking. A Giant Deckchair, illuminated Lamp Post Banner or another unusual display element gives visitors something they actually want to investigate.

07 — Don’t Forget the Back Wall

You can have fantastic displays at the front and still lose impact because of a huge grey shell scheme behind them. Fabric backdrop panels are one of the quickest ways to make the whole stand feel intentional — and they’re compact, reusable and machine washable.

PUTTING IT INTO PRACTICE

We Put Our Own Advice to the Test at the NEC

This isn’t theory for us. It’s what we did ourselves last week.

Sailflags exhibited on Stand B80 at the National Franchise Exhibition at Birmingham NEC on 2–3 October, alongside businesses from across the franchising world.

We went high.

A freestanding Lamp Post Banner towered over the stand, complete with an illuminated LED bulb at the top. It became a visual landmark and generated more comments and conversation starters than almost anything else on the stand.

We gave people a reason to stop.

Our Giant Deckchair sat prominently at the front of the stand. It wasn’t just advertising. People stopped, sat down, looked at it and talked about it — which is precisely the point.

We transformed the shell scheme.

Instead of accepting the standard grey exhibition walls, we covered them with 1m × 2m printed fabric backdrop panels. For the NEC we created a rustic wooden beach-hut style backdrop, attached directly to the shell scheme with Velcro and finished with lighting.

THE NEC VERDICT

Two Days. Thousands of Visitors.
One Lesson.

Height, colour and a reason to stop win every time.

A huge thank you to the National Franchise Exhibition team for another great show. #NFE26
